Air India Express, a well-known low-cost airline in India, has introduced Xpress Lite prices, a new fare choice aimed at travellers who like to travel light. Discounted rates are available for passengers who choose not to check any bags on board with these unbundled fares.
Air India Express now offers a special pricing option for passengers planning to travel without checked luggage. Xpress Lite rates, available only when making direct reservations via the official app or website, let travellers pack up to 7kg of cabin luggage. Further, passengers can reserve an additional 3kg of free luggage at the time of booking or at a later time via the airline's website or mobile app in the 'Check-in' or 'Manage' sections.
Additionally, travellers have the option to check their excess luggage at a discounted charge for slabs weighing 15 and 20 kg at any time. Air India Express's Chief Commercial Officer, Ankur Garg, stated:
"We aim to give air travel in India a new viewpoint with the debut of Xpress Lite fares. This idea is already well-liked by travellers worldwide, especially those who fly with international carriers to and from India. This highlights our dedication to constant innovation, providing Indian tourists with exceptional experiences, enabling smooth travel, and restating our brand's motto of "Fly As You Are." The potential for our domestic and international Xpress Lite Fares to reinvent travel ease while offering outstanding value is noteworthy.
Following the 'Fly As You Are' tenet, Air India Express gives clients the freedom to choose the services they need. According to recent data, the airline's ancillary revenue has significantly increased and now accounts for 14–15% of its entire revenue.
Air India Express is reportedly stepping up its attempts to increase ancillary revenue by focusing on things like food, luggage, in-flight amenities, and travel-related services. The airline currently charges extra on top of seat tickets for about 20 alternative goods and services.
At the WINGS India event in Hyderabad last month, Air India Express CEO Aloke Singh underlined the significance of ancillary revenue, saying, "Ancillary revenue will be a key focus for us in the upcoming fiscal year." It has a lot of promise, and our teams are working hard to improve non-passenger revenue by creating new goods and services."
These programs align with predictions that Air India Express, which currently operates about 320 daily flights, plans to treble that number by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
The airline intends to add three new aircraft per month to its fleet in order to quickly accommodate this expansion. As part of its expansion plan, Air India Express will acquire a large number of new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft over the course of the next few years, strengthening its fleet
